Tiger makes history, brutal cut sends stars packing | Seen and Heard at Augusta Day 5

With the Masters now at the halfway point, things are starting to get a little tighter.

Fourteen players are within six shots of the lead, which is shared by three players: Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa. Moving Day has seemingly never loomed so large.

First, though, some staff news: Congratulations to GOLF’s James Colgan, who won a coveted tee time at Augusta National on Monday in the annual media lottery.

“I think I’m still in a state of complete shock,” Colgan said. “I called my parents. My dad started crying.”

Here’s hoping Colgan can channel of of Homa’s on-course attitude. He’s currently in the midst of his best-ever major performance, and is actively trying to keep a level head about it all.

“I wrote something in my journal yesterday that just said, however good I am is how good I am,” Homa said Friday. “I don’t need to try to be better than I am. And I can just see wherever that takes me. Maybe it’s winning this, maybe it’s not. And I’m okay with that.”

Tiger Woods got an up-close look at Homa’s game and came away impressed with what he saw. And speaking of impressive, how about Mr. Woods, who made his 24th consecutive cut at the Masters on Friday to own the record outright.

In other news, Bryson DeChambeau found his way back into viral territory when photos emerged of DeChambeau carrying around an Augusta National signpost.

After his round, DeChambeau explained his intentions — he was simply trying to clear a path for a shot. A hearty welcome back to an all-time content king!

It was a round for the ages at Augusta, which buffeted the players with gusts of up to 45 mph. The cut soared to six over par, and even so, multiple big names were sent home, including former champions Dustin Johnson, Charl Schwartzel, Bubba Watson, Sergio Garcia and Jordan Spieth.

“Honestly? Most fascinating day of golf I’ve ever watched at this golf course,” said Sean Zak. “I’ve never seen a day like today. That was so fun.”

“And we have two more comin’ up,” said Dylan Dethier.
